Remodeled to Suit Retirement
GOAL: Gut and remodel mundane apartment to celebrate grandeur of 12 ft ceiling in this historic building.
ROLE: Architect and Construction Manager
VALUE ADDED: This remodel is all about the details. All 6'8" doors were replaced with 8'0" tall doors and transom panels that integrated with new door trim to create the appearance of much taller passageways. Three shades of white are used on the doors and trim for subtle playfulness. We chose a very tall wall base and used crown molding to frame a new opening between the kitchen and entry. We designed special screens for the big awning windows. Working with a white on white palette we created two elegant bathrooms. New hardwood oak dark stained floors and new lighting throughout.
